Selection Of Metal Faced Sandwich Panel For Construction

Aug 09, 2022

Metal faced sandwich panel is mainly used in the construction industry and chemical industry. It is a composite panel with thermal insulation materials as the core and metal faces (i.e. color steel) bonded on both sides. This composite plate not only has the advantages of high mechanical strength and easy molding of steel, but also has good corrosion resistance and decoration of coated materials. It is widely used for thermal insulation and heat insulation of building walls and roofs.

There are many kinds of such composite plates, and there are great differences in waterproof, fireproof, durability, weather resistance, heat insulation and other performances. This paper attempts to make a comprehensive statistical analysis on the types, performances and parameters of various metal faced sandwich plates used in buildings, for your reference.

Polystyrene molded sandwich panel (EPS) has the advantages of thermal insulation, water insulation, simple process, convenient construction, low price, etc., but it has low strength and is not resistant to high temperature. When it meets fire, it will produce a large number of thick smoke and toxic gas to form secondary toxicity. Its service life is 5 years.

Polystyrene extruded sandwich panel (XPS) has high strength, thermal insulation and weather resistance. However, the material is brittle, which is easy to crack and damage the core material. At the same time, it is easy to deform and bulge due to the change of temperature and humidity. The fire protection performance is poor, and the service life is also 5 years.

Rigid polyurethane sandwich panel (PU) is non thermal conductive, has good thermal insulation effect, high strength, waterproof and gas barrier, and has a service life of 25 years. Although it will self extinguish when leaving the fire, it should be used cautiously in areas with high fire protection requirements.

Polyisocyanate sandwich panel (PIR) has high strength, good thermal insulation and fire protection performance, but the material is brittle and has poor adhesion with the metals on both sides, which requires high production technology and is relatively expensive

Phenolic foam sandwich panel (PF) has good fire resistance, does not burn in case of open fire, and is smokeless, non-toxic, non dripping, and will not cause secondary toxicity. But it is easy to break and pulverize, and the drawing strength is also low, with a service life of 10 years.

Rock wool sandwich board (RW / SW) has high strength, corrosion resistance, sound absorption, fire prevention, and thermal insulation performance, which can also meet the requirements of most applications. The disadvantage is that it is easy to absorb moisture and has poor adhesion with metal. Due to resource constraints, the price is also relatively high, and the service life can reach 10 years. Because of its superior performance, this kind of sandwich panel is widely used in the chemical industry.

Glass wool sandwich panel (GW) has higher strength, non moisture absorption, and a service life of up to 30 years, but it also has higher requirements on production process and higher price.
