Standard Installation Procedures And Key Points

Jun 01, 2026

Proper installation is the final hurdle for prefabricated metal panels used in housing. Based on engineering practice, the following outlines the installation steps and key control points for prefabricated metal panels, applicable to both wall and roof systems.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Laying Out and Positioning
Mark the baseline for panel laying on your project's joists. For roofs, lay panels from the eaves towards the ridge; for walls, install row by row from bottom to top. The positioning of the first panel determines the overall straightness; the error must be controlled within 2mm.

Step 2: Positioning and Temporary Fixing
Lift the metal panels to the installation area and manually align them. The overlapping parts of the panels need to be temporarily fixed with 2-3 self-tapping screws. After checking that the panel edges are aligned with the baseline, permanently tighten them.

Step 3: Tightening and Spacing Control
The self-tapping screws should be driven into the crests or special grooves, stopping when the waterproof gasket is slightly deformed. Do not overtighten, which could cause the panel surface to dent. The spacing requirements are as follows: One corrugated board is required for every two corrugations; the spacing at board edges and overlaps should be ≤300mm.

Step 4: Longitudinal Overlap For roofs, the overlap length needs to be ≥200mm when the slope is >10°, and ≥300mm when the slope is 5°~10°; the minimum slope should not be less than 5°. The overlap length for walls needs to be ≥120mm. Apply sealant or lay butyl tape at the overlap and drive in a row of continuous self-tapping screws.

Step 5: Lateral Overlap Our standard corrugated boards are laterally overlapped with a complete corrugation, secured with rivets or self-tapping screws. For concealed snap-fit boards, connect to the keel using special fasteners, without penetrating the board surface.

Step 6: Edge Finishing and Sealing Install the ridge cap, eaves baffle, wall flashing, and window edge trim. Apply neutral weather-resistant sealant to all overlaps and nail head locations, with a sealant joint width of 5~8mm, continuously and evenly.
